Job Purpose

The Chemical Inventory Associate will work closely with the supply chain manager to ensure chemists receive packaged high-quality chemicals in a timely fashion. The Chemical Inventory Associate will receive materials and chemicals, check them in, test them for compliance with acceptance criteria and collect analytical characterization information by using the company’s advanced multi-million pound molecular measurement platform as a record for future analysis and troubleshooting. The candidate will operate within an aggressive Service Level Agreement and ensure the highest quality of service to all stakeholders, in particular production chemists.

The successful candidate will improve software and data systems, workflows, the work environment, and other key elements to ensure an efficient, safe, and successful chemical management and delivery operations.

Finally, as a key member of staff within Chemify’s tech enabled laboratories, the successful candidate will provide feedback to refine tools, processes, protocols, predictive systems, and other solutions to dramatically and continuously improve the performance of the company in managing inventory of chemicals and serving the needs of internal stakeholders. They will participate in the New Product and Process Introduction by engaging in preparatory work, training, and the hyper care period needed to polish new products and processes for scalable implementation later on at future Chemify sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the chemical stores at the company by learning and delivering on processes, and teaching/training others across the company to do the same: receive and check-in chemicals, collect and check-out chemicals, manage stocks and acceptance testing
  • Responsible for the health and safety across all stores, ensure compliance to health and safety standards
  • Track and allocate reagents efficiently
  • Facilitate check-in / check-out of chemicals
  • Take stock of chemicals. Restock as needed for appropriate chemicals
  • Execute reagent acceptance testing
  • Enter information in data management systems
  • Ensure safe and correct disposal of depleted chemicals and chemical waste
  • Support the laboratory operations team (Synthetic Chemistry, Reagent Manufacturing) to provide for their needs, priorities and ensure Service Level Agreement (SLA) expectations are met
  • Provide feedback to find areas for improvements, and contribute towards improving the companies capabilities to deliver on and improve the SLA by optimizing the work environment and developing optimal work practices and leveraging technology
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to ensure safe storage conditions for chemicals and safe work practices, well documented procedures and know-how, appropriate training programs, and be audit ready
  • Engage with the Supply Chain team to seamlessly and efficiently integrate workflows from ordering / re-ordering to receipt, testing, allocation to storage, payment, stock-taking, and financial auditing
  • Provide feedback into the technology systems of the company, make feature requests, participate in brainstorm, and ensure roadmap for technology improvements is optimal to realize the operationalization of chemistry and scale-up plans of the company
  • Work with minimum supervision in order to meet deadlines with ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Troubleshooting with a methodical approach to solving complex problems, with limited guidance
  • Execute aggressively with resources available and a start-up mindset against aggressive goals.
  • Keep a close interface and excellent working relationship with the entire Chemify organization
  • Deeply align and resonate with the company vision, mission, and goals – going above and beyond to see them realized cohesively with the rest of the organization

​Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Chemistry or related discipline / Broad vocational experience, acquired through a combination of job related vocational training and considerable on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in a series of progressively more demanding relevant work/roles.
  • ​ laboratory experience (2 years+ preferred)
  • Experience within top performing synthetic chemistry outfits desirable
  • A good mind for technology
  • Experience of, and ability to, understand, conceptualize and interpret operational and service requirements.
  • Good understanding of chemistry and chemicals; in particular on storage, handling, stability, and safety topics
  • Knowledge of relevant HM Revenue & Customs legislation/licensing
  • Experience of stock control systems
  • Experience of on-line ordering systems
  • Experience of Health & Safety, risk assessment and COSHH legislation
  • Excellent team player with cross functional people engagement skills
