The project\: 
Quality Assurance engineer required to work in Plymouth on a large-scale infrastructure project. Experience in the defence and nuclear industries is preferable.

Mace is looking to employ a Quality Assurance engineer to provide technical support to the project team. This will principally relate to quality assurance of the on-site activities, dimensional verification and quality control activities relating to all trades across the whole project. They will be expected to understand the scope of works and the quality assurance activities required to ensure compliant works. They will be responsible for Mace validation checks carried out in conjunction with trade contractor’s specific checks. They will be expected to understand the Mace quality management procedure and safety procedures and assist in the implementation of these. To be the Assurance Manager for the project, ensuring that all activity complies with the processes and procedures dictated by the client.


You’ll be responsible for:




  • To directly support the Senior Leadership Team of 5 BEWC&S in the planning, delivery, monitoring, and commissioning of the programme.




  • The Assurance Manager has no direct responsibilities for Systems, Structures, Plant or Equipment.




  • The Assurance Manager has an in-direct interface with the relevant Plant Managers for the assurance of assets associated with the 5 BEWC&S projects. The delivery of any necessary tasks will meet the requirements set out within the DRDL Nuclear Safety culture. The tasks will be identified by the Design Safety Documentation (Change Requests, Nuclear Hold Points, Preliminary Safety Report, Pre-Construction Safety Report etc), developed to ensure Design Intent is met, communicated to the construction team, and all associated contractors will be made aware of the requirements.




  • Assist the Head of Assurance to ensure that the 5 BEWC&S project areas comply with the DRDL, CDM 2015 and ONR policies for health, safety, security, environment, quality, procurement, logistic & traffic management, and personnel.  




  • Assist in the oversight of the Verification and Quality Assurance Teams in the monitoring and assurance of the 5 BEWC&S project processes and procedures.




  • Assist in the control of all aspects of the Nuclear Hold Point process for the 5 BEWC&S projects, working with the relevant Plant Managers and the Major Infrastructure Delivery and Integration Director to lift the restrictions appropriately and meet project schedule objectives.




  • Conduct relevant Audits to ensure the project is compliant.




  • Create and deliver the 5 BEWC&S Project Integrated Assurance and Approvals Plan (PIAAP) ensuring the content is current, relevant, and effective.




  • Lead on the 5 BEWC&S Learning from Experience (LfE) process to ensure that the project and the wider business benefit from lessons identified during this major project.




  • Support and advise the Head of Construction on matters of compliance and legislation (BMS, LC/AC Regulations, ISO 9001, CDM Regulations).




  • Act on behalf of the Head of Assurance to access all areas of the project to pursue Quality, Verification, Surveillance, and Assurance activities.




You’ll need to have:




  • With or working towards a qualification in civil engineering - HND, HNC or bachelor’s degree.




  • With professional memberships in Institution of Civil Engineers at the appropriate level.




  • With first aid training.




  • Experience in nuclear and defence.




  • Demonstrate a knowledge of civil engineering activities and how these can be controlled.




  • Good written and verbal communication with the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of different audiences.




  • Good attention to detail.




  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with the team.




  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet key deadlines.




You’ll also have:




  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent).




  • Formal auditor training course within relevant subject




  • Line management experience.




  • Quality assurance experience.




  • Quality management system experience.




  • Internal auditing experience.
