Job summary

The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading the Logistics team in routing, dispatching and tracking of delivery vehicles and freight across the EMEA regions including inbound freight from all regions achieving a high level of OTIF whilst working with the best interest of our customers in mind.

Manage National and International freight carriers ensure service levels are being met within agreed costs and proactively search for service improvements.

Ensure the relevant Legal, Safety, Productivity, Quality and financial performance indicators are met.

Specific responsibilities

  • To effectively manage the team of planning staff to provide a high quality and proactive service to operations, customers and our logistics providers.
  • Exhibit the technical and operational skills required to achieve the role objectives.
  • Possess in depth knowledge of domestic and international freight movement, budget control and contract negotiation.
  • Responsible for making key logistics and customs decisions to increase profitability of the business whilst servicing our customers to a high level.
  • Carry out negotiations with domestic and international logistics providers.
  • Minimising freight costs by identifying cost saving opportunities and developing operations plans for implementation.
  • Monitoring conformance and performance against objectives and targets whilst also dealing with complaints/errors and trying to reduce frequency of incidents.
  • Monitoring and controlling costs against set budgets, taking remedial action where required.
  • Regularly reviewing business performance against set indicators to determine the quality of customer service being provided and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Maintaining close contact with key customers to gauge perceived levels of service.
  • Fostering excellent working relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  • Deputise for the Transport Manager or Head of Logistics as required during periods of absence.
  • In respect of Health and Safety, ensure that safe working practices are adhered to.   Attend regular safety briefings and take responsibility for your own, employees, and contractors and visitor safety in accordance with The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies, systems and processes in accordance with ISO 14001, FSC and PEFC certification and compliance.
