Job Title:  Machine Operator (Tinting)
Location: Durham, NC
Reports to:  Production Manager
 
 
SUMMARY: Tends mixing machines and related piping systems, loads, and moves dry materials, tints, fillers, etc. manually into hoppers/batch tanks, loads, unloads and moves liquid solvents using calibrated flow regulators, hoses or other transfer mechanisms. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Detects and reports unsafe conditions, equipment, or situations
  • Reports all unusual occurrences and incidents to Supervisor
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (half or full-face respirator).
  • Obtains, reads and follows in batch package.
  • Makes adjustments to batches per written instructions from QC.
  • Follows oral instructions from Group Leader or Production Manager
  • Moves pallets, and tanks with forklift.
  • Dumps drums with drum grabber.
  • Transfers MMA and Benzoflex 2088 using pumping systems.
  • Operates Mixers per parameters on Operating Instructions in Batch Packages.
  • Weighs materials and adds them to batches per batch package.
  • Properly bonds and grounds all material transfers.
  • Fills out process instruction sheet documenting: lot numbers, quantities, times and temperatures as required by process instructions.
  • Cleans batch tanks, mixing blades, equipment and secondary containment vessels or sumps as required wearing PPE until atmosphere/breathing zone is free of dusts, vapors, mists gases or other contaminants.
  • Operates hydraulic presses to fill batches.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management
GENERAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Observe all company work rules, policies and procedures to ensure optimum safety and successful attainment of task objectives.
  • Maintain work areas, walking areas, tank storage area(s) clean and free of trash, waste paper, dust and debris.
  • Complete all assignments with accuracy, neatness and thoroughness.
  • Maintain harmonious working relationships with team members, co-workers and other departments.
  • Be flexible to changes in assignment and workload and contribute to the growth of the organization.
  • Actively strive to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities related to present position or assignment.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 
  • High School or trade school graduate or apprenticeship experience required.
  • Prior assembly, manufacturing or chemical industry background desirable. 
  • Basic computational and volumetric skills necessary.
  • Must be able to calculate/estimate weight or volume of mixture.
