Machine Operator
Location - Denton, Manchester, M34 3SG
Employment Type – Permanent, Full Time, 40 Hours a Week, 8:00-4:30
General Description
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team at the Parkway facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of production machinery including CNC routers, edge banders, and table saws, in support of daily manufacturing targets.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Machine Operator will play a key role in maintaining high standards of product quality, machine performance, and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation
- Operate CNC machinery, edge banding machines, and table saws according to production plans and technical drawings.
- Set up machines for daily operation, including loading programs, adjusting settings, and changing tooling as required.
- Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
Quality & Output
- Inspect parts and components during and after machining to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
- Work closely with the Quality Control Operative to identify and correct any product or process deviations.
- Maintain production output logs and report any machine faults or material issues promptly.
Maintenance & Safety
- Perform routine maintenance checks and cleaning on assigned machines to prevent breakdowns and prolong equipment life.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols and use appropriate PPE.
- Report hazards or unsafe practices immediately to the Production Manager.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other team members to meet production deadlines and priorities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing productivity and reducing waste.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and departmental meetings.
Candidate specification:
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience operating CNC machines, edge banders, or table saws in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists, and job specifications.
- Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of woodworking processes.
- High attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with wood-based panels, cabinetry, or joinery products.
- Ability to perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing or 5S principles.
- Forklift or material handling certification is a plus.
Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
- Vocational training or certification in manufacturing, woodworking, or machine operation preferred.
- Health and safety awareness (IOSH or equivalent) desirable.
