Quality Assurance Manager
 
Purpose:
 
Colonna’s Shipyard is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager at our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the department. Additionally, the QA Manager will aid in the development, implementation and surveillance of the Quality Management System and assign tasks as required.
 
The position is located onsite in Norfolk VA and may require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations, as needed.  Position may require limited travel. 
 
Job Description:
  • Maintains, implements, and revises the Quality Management System, under the direction of corporate Quality department. 
  • Generates, reviews and/or submits Process Control Procedures, Test and Inspection Plans, Required Report Lists, Condition Reports, etc.
  • Liaison between Colonna’s Shipyard and the customer to answer and investigate customer discrepancies, concerns, or issues.
  • Prepares the Quality Assurance Department to meet external certification or customer audit requirements
  • Conduct Quality meetings, as needed, to discuss a variety of quality matters including past audits, senior management review meetings, status of CAR’s, OFI’s, and other quality issues.
  • Train Quality Assurance and Production personnel on Quality Plans, Procedures, Work Instructions, Contracts and Customer requirements as needed.
  • Maintain documents, records, and audit data as required. Provides copies to Colonna’s Shipyard as needed.
  • Assist in preparing Management Reviews. 
  • Oversee the Quality Assurance Department day to day operations.
  • Maintain documents, records and audit data as required.
  • Prepares the Quality Assurance Department to meet external certification or customer audit requirements.
  • Holds weekly Quality Assurance Department meetings to discuss quality and safety topics.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate and timely OQE submittals to customers.
  • Participates and leads quality focused requirements during various phases of product life cycle.
  • Conduct internal audits as needed.
  • Oversees the Customer Survey Program.
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering services or technical field, to include experience in roles with quality related responsibilities. 
  • Must have knowledge of quality techniques and systems, including quality specifications and/or advanced quality systems.
  • Must be able to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem-solving methods and statistical analysis.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Related Department of Defense experience including direct experience with government customer relations strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 Standards AND ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification is preferred.
Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal Travel; 15% or less.
Physical Requirements:
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
  • General shipyard/industrial environment. this type of work has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 65% of the time.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Hear, talk, and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
  • A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
